The short version

Up Next is a tool for coaches and parents of youth baseball and softball teams. Accounts are for adults. Children never create accounts, never sign in, and never send us anything themselves. We don't sell data and we run no ads. The app itself contains no analytics at all; this website uses Google Analytics to count visits, which is described below.

Who has an account

You must be 18 or older to create an Up Next account. Everything about a player is entered by an adult — their coach, or their own parent or guardian.

What we store about you

  • Your email address, and your name if your sign-in provider gives us one.
  • Which teams you're on and your role on each.

If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your email and name from them and never see your password. If you use Apple's Hide My Email, we only ever see the relay address Apple gives us.

What we store about a player

  • First and last name, jersey number, position, batting side.
  • A photo, if an adult adds one.
  • A phonetic spelling of their name, for the announcer.
  • Optionally a recording of an adult saying the player's name. We do not record children's voices.
  • Their walk-up song and where in it to start.
  • Batting order and whether they're benched.

That's all. No address, no date of birth, no contact details, nothing medical or academic, no statistics.

Parents and guardians

A coach can invite a player's parent to add that child's photo, walk-up song and pronunciation themselves. When they do:

  • They can see only their own child. Not the rest of the roster, not the other members, not the team's playlists. This is enforced by our servers, not just hidden in the app.
  • We keep a record that they added it — their account, the time, and what they were told they were agreeing to. It's stored alongside the grant so that later changes to our wording can't change what was actually agreed.
  • They can change or remove anything they added, at any time. A head coach can remove a parent's access at any time.

Who can see a player's information

  • Head coach and co-managers — the whole roster.
  • A game-day operator (a volunteer running the music) — can see the roster and play music, and can change nothing.
  • A parent or guardian — their own child only.

Photos

A photo from a phone normally carries the GPS coordinates of where it was taken. Every photo uploaded to Up Next is re-encoded on our servers, which removes location and all other embedded metadata before it is stored.

Who else receives information

A small number of service providers, only to make the app work. They are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.

  • Google (Firebase) — sign-in, database, file storage.
  • ElevenLabs — a player's name is sent as text to generate the announcer saying it. No photo, no other player information and no account information is sent with it.
  • Netlify — hosts this page and the announcer request service.
  • Google Analytics — counts visits to this website only. It is not in the app. See "Website analytics" below.
  • Apple — song searches, Apple Music playback, and Sign in with Apple if you use it.

Song search uses Apple's iTunes Search API. We never download, copy or store Apple Music audio — Apple Music plays only through Apple's own player, using your own subscription on your own device.

Website analytics

This website — the pages under playupnext.live — uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages people read. The Up Next app does not. Nothing you do inside the app is reported to Google Analytics or to anyone else.

What Google Analytics receives when you visit this site:

  • which pages you viewed, and when;
  • an approximate location (city or region) worked out from your IP address;
  • your device and browser type, and the site or link you arrived from;
  • a randomly generated identifier stored in a cookie on your device, so repeat visits can be counted as one visitor.

It does not receive your name, your email address, any player's name or photo, or anything else from your account. We have not enabled Google Advertising features, and this data is not used to show you ads.

Invite and sign-in links are deliberately excluded. The guardian setup page and the email sign-in page carry a single-use code in their web address. On those two pages we strip the address down to the page name before anything is sent, so the code itself never reaches Google Analytics. The visit is still counted; the code is not shared.

You can block this in your browser's cookie settings, by using a private window, or with Google's own opt-out add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. Blocking it does not affect anything in the app or your ability to set up a player.

Anonymous song data

When anyone picks a walk-up song we add to a count of how often that song is chosen and where in it people tend to start. That's what lets us suggest a starting point. It contains no identity of any kind — not the user, not the player, not the team — and cannot be traced back to anyone.

What we don't do

  • We don't sell personal information.
  • We run no ads and no ad networks.
  • The app has no analytics and no crash-reporting service. Nothing you do inside Up Next is reported to anyone. The website's analytics are described above and cover this site only.
  • We don't build profiles of children.
  • We don't ask for your location or your contacts.

Deleting things

All of this is in the app, and deletion means the files are gone, not just unlinked:

  • A photo, song or recording — remove it from the player's screen.
  • A player — deleting them deletes their photo and recordings too.
  • A team — deleting it removes every player on it and all their files.
  • Your whole account — Account → Delete my account. This deletes your account, the teams you own, every player on them, all their photos and recordings, and removes the access of anyone you invited. It can't be undone.

You can also write to support@playupnext.live and we'll remove it.

How long we keep things

  • Active accounts and teams: while the account exists.
  • Deleted content: removed from our live systems straight away.
  • Unaccepted invitations: stop working after 14 days.

Security

Sign-in is handled by Google's Firebase Authentication and we never see your password. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Invitation links are stored only as a one-way hash, so a copy of our database wouldn't yield a usable invitation.

Children's information

Children don't interact with Up Next. There's no child-facing part of the app, no child accounts, and no way for a child to send us anything. Information about a child is entered by an adult who is either their parent or guardian, or their coach acting with permission.

A parent or guardian can review, replace or delete everything about their child at any time, in the app or by writing to support@playupnext.live.

Changes

We'll post changes here and update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we handle a player's information, we'll tell account holders in the app.
